St Giminano is the sample sketch book page I am using for the meeting on February 5th. It shows use of layers, blending modes, layer styles, eraser and text. There are at least eight layers here, and the hard edge on the right is still to be eased into the backgound. Posted by Hello

Papers to try printing onto include those from www.Hahnemuhle.de (excellent range of all types of "art" papers, I bought mine at the Patchings Festival, but they are often at the shows.
Daler Rowney Art Papers, again from a show. This range includes a true canvas which is stitchable. Crafty Computer offers papers of all sorts. There are many on line sources of papers aimed at artists and photographers. Try all your regular papers too. Try printing different layers on to different papers and physically layering them up. Use Fabric instead of paper.
